- One clear, front-facing photo of your child's face
- Good, even lighting — daylight near a window is perfect
- Eyes open and looking toward the camera
- Hair styled the way you'd like it in the book
- An everyday snapshot — it beats a posed studio portrait
Try to avoid
- Sunglasses, hats, or hands covering the face
- Heavy shadows, backlighting, or a very dark room
- Blurry, low-resolution, or far-away shots
- Group photos where the face is small or partly hidden
- Strong filters that change skin tone or features
